Ting Ting
Hello friends,
As I write you this letter we are again evacuated from our home, for the second time in 5 weeks. Mud and landslides are still coming down after heavy rain upon the San Gabriels, young mountains ripe for sliding after burning in the Eaton Canyon Fire.
And while it’s easy to slip into feelings of devastation, defeat, hopelessness… I find myself focused on the metaphorical stars. When I wrote this record I was in bed recovering from the first of two knee surgeries which I couldn’t really afford. We still lived in a studio apartment and I was limping into a year without any work on the calendar. Throughout my life, challenges force me to bear witness to what I find most important. Friendship, empowerment, inspiration, and resilience. Kindness, generosity, patience, and curiosity. Believing in people and letting them know. Allowing people to believe in me, so that I might grow.
The harder life is, the sweeter the moment when I get to look someone in the eye and say “cheers.”
So “Ting Ting” to you, I hope you enjoy this new album from Jacksonport. The brilliant people who helped make it are listed below.
Love, John
